Needle and syringe devices need to be validated in a way that proves they are safe for use. This validation includes proving that the joint from the hub to needle are secure, and that when attached to a syringe the needle will function properly. This validation is done by performing force and torque testing. The testing will assess the quality, usability, and conformance to standards of the needle and syringe device.
It is imperative that syringes used in the medical field are able to perform in a controlled and smooth manner. The luers that needles are attached to hubs with should also be torque tested. The force needed to separate the two pieces must be strong enough to prevent operational failure, but weak enough that any health care personnel could disassemble it with ease.
Mesa Labs offers various torque test analyzers, capable of this precise application, suited to the task at hand.
